‘Thupakki’ Music Review

Vijay’s much-awaited, controversial ‘Thuppaki’, had its audio launched last week.

Devised by Harris Jayaraj, the music is quite simple. For those of us who wished that Harris Jayaraj would stop sounding like himself, ‘Poi Varava’ is a welcome break. Easily the best song in the album, the melody has lyrics which employ imagery, that of ice capes and natures beauty, complemented by the soulful rendition by Karthik and Chinmayee.

‘Google Google’ made it to the top of the charts this week, primarily because its adherence to the tastes of disco junkies and fans of fanciful lyrics. Musically, the song doesn’t hold much.

‘Vennilave’ is the other song which stands out, though no different, the tune is compelling.

Sharmila’s strong voice is stunningly brought out in ‘Alaika Laika’, but the lyrics could have been better thought-out.

Trust any Vijay film to have ‘Puli’ in one of the songs. ‘Kutti Puli Kuttam’ and ‘Antarctica’ are fast-paced songs which complete the six-song album along with the theme ‘Akilan on a mission’, a well-mixed one.
